One Man's Mission to Serve

Sam Williamson doesn’t come from a military family. He’s not an ultra, elite athlete. But as a civilian board member of the Bird’s Eye View Project, he was deeply moved by those who had risked everything and sacrificed so much.

So on October 26th, Sam will lay it all on the line to raise $100,000 for veterans and first responders. He’ll walk 100 miles around White Rock Lake in Dallas,  TX straight through, in 48 hours.

It’s a grueling undertaking and the outcome is far from certain. But the benefit to these amazing organizations makes it worth the attempt. Please show your support to help Sam go the distance.

Walk the Walk 100 is presented by the Bird’s Eye View Project

The Training

Sam is currently working with elite strength and conditioning coach Brandon Head of Grapevine Crossfit, building his stamina with a combination of strength training, cross training, yoga and walking. His regimen is designed to help him overcome the physical and emotional barriers he’ll encounter on his journey. Come back often to view his frequent updates and see his progress.

The Risks

It’s 100 miles around White Rock Lake, walking day and night, for 48 hours. The risks are many—snakes, coyotes, darkness, terrain, weather, dehydration, injury. And then there’s the sheer mental and physical challenge and the potential for the mind or body to fail.

#WalktheWalk100 - training through discomfort vs pain. Know when to hold the line, listen to your body and surround yourself with professionals you trust, especially when things get wonky. Listen and be honest with yourself in the process. Only YOU know you best. My dear pal and Navy SEAL veteran Ryan Birdman Parrot reminded me of all this today; and there is a big difference between confidence and arrogance. The latter gets you in trouble and way over your pro, inevitably leading to disastrous results. Part of this journey is full transparency of my constant learning and reminding through these teachable moments.
